January 15, 2025 – Queens, NY – LiberArte Inc. stands in support of Terraza 7, a cultural treasure in Jackson Heights, Queens that has been instrumental in shaping Jackson Height’s artistic landscape. For over 23 years, Terraza 7 has fostered connection, creativity, and resistance, but today, this beacon of community is under threat of closure.
As an organization committed to nurturing artists, we recognize Terraza 7 as more than just a venue; it is a cultural landmark and sanctuary for the arts. Its stage has amplified countless voices and hosted transformative experiences that transcend borders—including two unforgettable performances by Tambacum, our 2024 Artist in Residence.
During Tambacum’s USA tour, Terraza 7 became a space of celebration, where the soul-stirring rhythms of Afro-Colombian heritage resonated deeply with the audience. These performances were not only highlights of the tour but also testaments to the power of cultural exchange and the vibrant, welcoming spirit that Terraza 7 embodies.
We urge the community to take action to preserve this vital space:
Terraza 7’s contribution to the arts, particularly its role in highlighting the richness of immigrant and Afro-Latinx stories, aligns closely with LiberArte’s mission to nurture creativity in harmony with the Earth and each other. Losing Terraza 7 would be an immeasurable loss—not just for Queens, but for the global arts community it serves.
Together, we can safeguard this home for artistic expression and ensure that it continues to inspire generations to come. Let’s act now to keep the music playing, the stories flowing, and the dreams alive.
